The Steel Creek Ranch spans 1,400± deeded acres of the famed Big Hole Valley. The ranch also comes with a 1,600± state lands lease and almost 4,000± acres of Forest Service lease which is right out the back door. Currently 600± acres of the ranch are under irrigation and are used for a hay crop. The west boundary of the property runs the border of the National Forest in the Pioneer Mountain Range. The ranch also comes with the Forest Service grazing permits. With a National Forest boundary the Steel Creek makes moving the cattle into the mountains an easy chore. The Steel Creek Ranch provides the full spectrum of terrain including scenic mountains, productive hay ground, and native range land for pasture. On the border of sections 11 and 12 is a large pond which is on the ranch's state lease. Steel Creek runs through the ranch for 3± miles adding to the beautiful landscape. All water rights appurtenant to the property will transfer at closing.
The ranch is currently running 150 cow/calf pairs year round and usually the owners take an additional 150 pair for the summer grazing season. In a typical year the cattle start in the spring on the lower ranch and state lease, move to the forest permit for the months of July and August, then finish up on the deeded land in the fall for grazing and winter calving.Improvements:
Most of the improvements on the ranch were constructed in 1990. These include a 1,604± SF farm style home complete with three large bedrooms and two full baths. This house is currently being used as the ranch manager's quarters. The main building was erected the same time for the owner's family and friends. This building contains three separate living quarters all on one level. Two of the units contain approximately 500± SF and one unit that is larger with 1,300± SF. A 20 x 51 foot shop have also been recently added. These buildings have all been built by quality contractors and materials used were of the highest quality. Each of the buildings was built to have a rustic look. All out buildings are in excellent condition. The corrals are more than adequate for a 150 to 200 cattle head operation. A new trout pond has been added to the ranch and is ready to be stocked with trout.
