Baker Slough Ranch

From the elevated west boundary of the Baker Slough Ranch, the views of the Tobacco Root and Ruby Mountains are incredible. As you look east over the Beaverhead and Ruby River Valleys, you can actually see the top of the Madison Range over fifty miles away.

Waterfowl hunting on the Baker Slough Ranch is excellent, especially late in the year. During December and January when most open water is frozen, Baker Slough remains open which brings in large numbers of migrating birds. The grain crop recruits a decent number of pheasants, but could be improved by planting birds once a year.

Baker Slough has good fishing with all the potential to be turned into an extraordinary fishery with some excavation and stream restoration. This water feature could also be turned into a spring creek type fishery with some stream engineering. The ranch is centrally located to a number of Montana’s Blue Ribbon trout streams and is a short drive to the Ruby, Beaverhead, Big Hole, Jefferson, and Madison Rivers. Whitetail Deer and Antelope hunting can be good on the property as well. Elk hunting in the surrounding mountain ranges is top notch.

The Baker Slough Ranch is located in one of the most moderate climates in Southwest Montana—known to locals as the “Banana Belt.” This area has an average high temperature in the month of January of just over 34 degrees and an average low temperature of just over 11 degrees Fahrenheit. July, the warmest month, has an average high temperature of just under 86 degrees Fahrenheit and an average low in the mid 40s.
