Montana Attractions

Montana has endless places and sights that are worth visiting. Famous for National Parks, you'll find incredible beauty and adventure in Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park.  Other attractions include art galleries, ghost towns, universities.

Perhaps the most visited Montana attraction, is Yellowstone National Park.  This park features mountain views and a large amount of biodiversity.   Inspiring sights await visitors around every turn.  Be sure not to miss Mammoth Hot Springs.  Yellowstone National Park presents visitors with unmatched beauty.

Another great National Park is Glacier.  Home to pristine forests, jagged mountains, lakes and alpine meadows, Glacier National Park must be visited. In the winter you can cross country ski, snowshoe, camp and study the ecology.  Come summer, Glacier National Park is a hikers paradise with over 700 miles of trails.

The state is also famous for its ghost towns. Walking along the squeaking boards walks of one of Montana's ghost towns is a great way to imagine the people and towns that existed here long ago.  During the late 1850's gold was discovered in Montana bringing hoards of prospectors and creating thriving boomtowns.  Years later when the gold disappeared, the towns were abandoned.  Several ghost towns were preserved including Virginia City and Bannack.

Visiting art galleries is a great activity during your time in Montana.  Western artists, famous sculptors, photographers and jewelers present their work at galleries around the state.  You'll be surprised by the variety and scale of the art in Montana art galleries

Montana’s universities are great places to visit. Each of these outstanding institutions are cultural centers with the abundant sporting events, festivals, exhibitions, and theater productions.  The University of Montana is located in Missoula while Montana State University is in Bozeman, Montana.

Visiting National Historic Sites is another great pastime in Montana.  In Dillon, be sure to check out Lemhi Pass.  This pass is a saddle in the Beaverhead Mountains along the Continental Divide.  In 1960 this pass was designated a National Historic Landmark due to its significance to the Lewis and Clark expedition.
